Cancer Centre

Your Journey Begins Here

At Gleneagles Hospital Medini Johor, our Cancer Centre promises to help patients and caregivers in need of adequate cancer treatment by providing professional support and care, attending to their needs physically or emotionally, and also creating a place of comfort.

MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY AND FACILITY

Different approaches are required to treat cancer and every decision is vital in managing cancer treatment. Here at Gleneagles Hospital Medini Johor, we believe that advancements in medical care are required for the best outcomes. We provide cancer screening, precision diagnostics, and appropriate treatment plans for every patient.

SCREENING AND DIAGNOSTIC

  • PET CT

Gleneagles Hospital Medini Johor becomes the technology forefront of oncology service in Johor and the southern region with the first Digital PET-CT in Malaysia. A digital PET/CT scanner allows for faster scans, reduced dosage in radioisotopes use, and improves lesion detection compared to older analogue PET-CT. This allows doctors to come up with a better course of treatment.

  • Mammogram and Ultrasound for Breast Cancer

A mammogram is an X-ray picture of the breast. Doctors use a mammogram to look for early signs of breast cancer and pair it with ultrasound to further confirm development of cancer. Regular mammograms are the best tests doctors have to find breast cancer early, sometimes up to three years before it can be felt.

  • Endoscopy
    • Gastroscopy for Stomach Cancer

A gastroscopy is a test that looks at the inside of your food pipe (oesophagus), stomach and the first part of your small intestine (small bowel). Your doctor might arrange for you to have a gastroscopy to help diagnose stomach cancer.

    • Colonoscopy for Colon Cancer

A colonoscopy looks at the whole inside of your large bowel. The procedure is to check for polyps or cancer inside the rectum and the entire colon.

LABORATORY TESTING

  • Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test for Prostate Cancer

The PSA test is a blood test to help detect prostate cancer. A raised PSA level in the blood may indicate a sign of prostate cancer. PSA testing is used by doctors to determine the underlying prostate problem.

  • Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) DNA for Nasopharyngeal Cancer Screening

Analysis of EBV DNA in plasma samples is useful in screening for early asymptomatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

  • Stool Occult Blood Test

A stool occult blood test looks at a sample of your stool to check for blood. It is a simple test that looks for the early signs of colon cancer.

  • HPV for Cervical Cancer

The human papillomavirus (HPV) test detects the presence of human papillomavirus, a virus that can lead to the development of genital warts, abnormal cervical cells or cervical cancer.

Hormonal Therapy

Hormone therapy is a treatment that slows or stops the growth of cancer that uses hormones to grow. Hormone therapy is also called hormone treatment, or endocrine therapy.

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is a type of treatment that helps your immune system fight cancer. The immune system helps your body fight infections and other diseases. It is made up of white blood cells and organs and tissue of the lymph system.

Biological Targeted Therapy

Targeted therapy is a treatment that specifically targets a person’s cancer cells and the molecules which tell the cells to grow and spread. By attacking these molecules in the cancer cell, targeted therapies can block the abnormal growth of those cells which cause cancer.

Radiotherapy

In our Cancer Centre, we house the Elekta Linear Accelerators that allow us to provide advanced cancer therapies such as:

Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy (3DRT)

  • 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy is a cancer treatment that shapes the radiation beams to match the shape of the tumour.
  • Conformal radiation therapy uses the targeting information to focus precisely on the tumour while avoiding the healthy surrounding tissues.

Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT)

  • Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) is a type of conformal radiotherapy that shapes the radiation beams to closely fit the area of cancer.
  • Each radiotherapy beam is divided into many small beamlets that can vary the intensity of radiation. This allows different doses of radiation to be given across the tumour.
  • This means that the tumour receives a very high dose and normal healthy cells nearby receive a much lower dose

Volumetric Arc Therapy (VMAT)

  • Volumetric Arc Therapy (VMAT) or sometimes called Rapid Arc, is a type of IMRT technique.
  • For VMAT, the machine rotates around the patient during a radiotherapy beam in an arc shape. The machine continuously reshapes and changes the intensity of the radiation beam as it moves around the body.
  • Giving the radiotherapy in this way makes it very accurate, shortens the treatment time and uses a lower overall dose of radiation.

Image Guide Radiotherapy (IGRT)

  • Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) is the use of frequent imaging during a course of radiation therapy to improve the precision and accuracy of the delivery of radiation treatment.
