• Dr. Ryan Ponndurai received his undergraduate training at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland before embarking on a residency program in Internal Medicine at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, USA. After successfully obtaining his US Board certification in Medicine, he spent 3 years at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, California, training in Gastroenterology and receiving his Board Certification in the subspecialty. He then decided to further specialize in advanced endoscopy and entered a one-year fellowship at the Wellesley Hospital in Toronto, Canada. After honing his skills in complex endoscopic procedures, he pursued further training in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) with Professor Soehendra in Hamburg, Germany.
• Dr. Ponnudurai returned to Malaysia in 2001 and joined the Liver unit at Selayang Hospital. He dedicated his time to train and build a regional referral centre for advanced endoscopy. He pioneered the use of Endoscopic Ultrasound in South East Asia, training local and international endoscopists. Live workshops were conducted including live transmissions to the Harvard group of hospitals in the USA. One of his major contribution is launching the Asia Pacific task force in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS TAP) with the aim of to teach EUS in countries in the Asia Pacific region. He has been invited as faculty in over 120 live endoscopy workshops all over the world.
• Dr. Ponnudurai joined Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur in year 2005. His main interest is in pancreatobiliary disease and with the latest equipment available in Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur Endoscopic Center he hopes to decrease the burden of GI malignancies and giving patients world class care.
