Mr. Vimal provides treatment for the entire spectrum of general surgical diseases and performs operative procedures relating to the thyroid gland, salivary glands, breasts, the entire gastrointestinal tract (including the stomach, small and large intestines, rectum, and anus), abdominal wall hernias, skin and subcutaneous skin lesions, etc. He also has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery for all kinds of hernias, gallbladder diseases, benign and malignant colorectal diseases, splenectomy and gastroesophageal reflux diseases.

Mr. Vimal performs high-end advanced laparoscopic bariatric surgery (weight reduction) such as gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass for patients with obesity-related complications such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension and sleep disorders. Part of his routine work is diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic surgery of the gastrointestinal tract.

Mr. Vimal completed his medical education at Karnatak Medical College, Hubli, India, in 1991, after which he underwent his housemanship at Alor Star Hospital. He worked as a Medical Officer at Alor Star Hospital, Sungai Petani Hospital and Penang Hospital. Upon completion of his postgraduate studies and after obtaining his Masters in General Surgery in 2000, he was posted to Taiping Hospital in 2001. He was appointed Chief of Surgery at Taiping Hospital in 2002. It was then that he developed an interest in the area of laparoscopic (‘keyhole’) surgery. He obtained his Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery from India in 2006 and also completed his Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy at the Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery, Bordeaux, France. He joined Gleneagles Penang in 2009 as a resident Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in Laparoscopic Surgery.

Mr. Vimal is married with two children and is a passionate Liverpool supporter (YNWA).
