Bariatric Service Provider of The Year in The Asia-Pacific 2020

Bariatric Treatment

Bariatric treatment Is not only offers obese patients a second chance at a healthier lifestyle but also reduces the number of diseases associated with the condition.

"Obesity is a chronic and progressive disease that affects multiple organs in the body. This leads to potentially life-threatening conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, gall stones, and cancers like breast, uterine and colon." Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur CEO, Hoo Ling Lee said when receiving Global Health Asia-Pacific's award for Bariatric Service Provider of the Year 2020.

"We started to create awareness on bariatric treatment extensively not only because the obesity rate is increasing in Asia, but also because of the increase in type 2 diabetes."

“This award recognises the handwork and dedication of our team of surgeons, endocrinologists, dietitians, marketing staff and management. Moreover, it also acts as fuel to the fire within the team to strive for bigger milestones and success under the belt of bariatric treatment,” she added. Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur began to promote bariatric surgery in 2016. Since then, the number of bariatric surgeries performed at the hospital has continued to increase. Our experienced team of bariatric surgeons have now performed more than 1,500 procedures in Malaysia.

At the same time, the team has collaborated with prominent industrial players that have aided the development of the hospital’s bariatric and metabolic surgical treatment unit.

“During the development of our bariatric unit, we managed to incorporate a strong multidisciplinary team that includes endocrinologists, cardiologists, dieticians, physiotherapists, and nurses.”

“Our strong marketing team has also contributed significantly by developing awareness and interest among local and international patients. The Gleneagles bariatric and metabolic surgical treatment unit officially opened in the early second half of 2019,” said Hoo.
