Mr. Palaniappan pursued his basic medical education, on a scholarship, at the Stanley Medical College, Madras. Upon completion of his studies, he was posted to Sabah. He then underwent training at the Charing Cross Hospital in London and at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, London, qualifying with a Diploma in Otolaryngology of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.
Subsequently, Mr. Palaniappan continued training as Registrar and did a short stint as Senior Registrar during which period he took up additional training in maxillofacial trauma surgery and endoscopic sinus surgery. He then returned home to serve initially at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital as clinical specialist and then at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sabah, followed by some years at the Penang General Hospital as an ENT surgeon and Head of Department.
Mr. Palaniappan was a lecturer at the Penang Campus of the Medical Faculty of the University Science Malaysia and a tutor to the medical students at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School, London. While at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, he was actively involved in teaching and training Master’s Degree students of the UKM. He is currently an Examiner at the Penang Medical College.
