Tennis Elbow

When there is an inflammation at one of the tendons joining the forearm muscles to the elbow, it causes pain and tenderness surrrounding the exterior of the elbow which is called Tennix Elbow. Eventually, the forearm muscles and tendons end up severely damage from extensive usage.


Causes
Tennis Elbow occurs where there is strenous use of the tendons and forewarm muscles, and gradually gets damaged. This is usually caused by the movement of a tennis downstroke. The muscle of the forearm (Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis) becomes weaker from using it too much. Those tendon fibres can tear within the muscles that can cause immense pain and discomfort from inflammation. When the elbow bends and straighten, over a duration of time there will show signs of wear and tear of the muscles.


Treatment

Treatment usually includes the following:

- A brace centred over the back of your forearm, which may help to relieve symptoms by resting the muscles and tendons.

- Check your racquets if they are the perfect fit to avoid symptoms from recurring

- Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs to reduce the pain and swelling

- Ensure rest with no rigiourous sports or heavy duty work for several weeks.

- Steroid injections if other treatments show unsuccessful

- Wrist stretching exercises



Symptoms

Tennis Elbow causes pain on the outside of the elbow, besides that it shares most of the symptoms of Golfer's Elbow. Other symptoms might include:

- Pain that goes all the way down your arm

- Pain gets worse whenever you use your forearm

- For instance, holding a tennis racquet, fixing with a wrench, or shaking hands
