Rotator Cuff Injury

Our Rotator Cuff is made up of a simple network of four muscles. These muscles are linked by several tendons that create a cover, surrounding the top upper arm bone (humerus) holding it in place in the shoulder joint, allowing our arms to rotate. Any injury or inflammation to this part of the body is one of the most common causes of shoulder pain.
Causes
The causes of Rotator Cuff issues depend on one of the three types of Rotator Cuff injuries below:

Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
Irritation and inflammation of the tendons of the rotator cuff muscles due to an injury or overuse of the shoulder. This usually occurs in athletes who participate in throwing sports or in non-athletes with a history of recent heavy lifting or activities involving repetitive movements of the shoulder.

Rotator Cuff Impingement Syndrome
When the Rotator Cuff Tendon becomes trapped and the tendon is repeatedly scraped against the shoulder blade this leads to the tendon fraying and possible tearing if left untreated.

Rotator Cuff Tears
When the tendons in the Rotator Cuff tear instead of the muscles and is usually because of a fall or accident in younger individuals. In older people, this is more likely caused by Rotator Cuff Impingement Syndrome.
Symptoms
The symptoms of Rotator Cuff injury is also highly dependent on the type of injury:

Rotator Cuff Tendonitis — Generalised shoulder pain, or pain that worsens with overhead activities or at night
Rotator Cuff Impingement Syndrome— Chronic pain that worsens with overhead activities or at night
Rotator Cuff Tear— Pain and weakness.
