Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)

This is a procedure that is minimally invasive and safe diagnostic tool to provide imagery of the lining and walls of the GI tract and surrounding organs involving the pancreas, liver and gallbladder. A flexible tube is incorporated, an endoscope that enters carefully into the mouth or anus. Endoscopic Ultrasound produces detailed imagery of the digestive tract and gives an assessment of any Gastrointestinal anomalies.

Why do you need Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)?

Your doctor may suggest this procedure to assess and give an accurate diagnosis to what is the source of a constant abdominal pain or unexplainable weight loss. This is used to show the stages of cancer and to detect for gallstones or liver tumours. Additionally, it's to examine any abnormalities growing in the bile duct.

Essentially, this procedure can be useful to detect chronic pancreatitis, and factors causing bowel incontinence (lack of bowel control).

Endoscopic Ultrasound can be used to examine previous detected lumps or lesions. Your doctor can gather tissue samples to find the source and offer the best treatment options.
