Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is a diagnostic procedure that uses to assess the condition of the full lining within the colon and rectum. A colonoscope is used which is generally safe and non-invasive. Your doctor will make sure to clean the colon using a solution and will insert the colonoscope into the anus and carefully entering the rectum and colon.

Why do you need Colonoscopy?

In some cases, abnormalities might appear which then your doctor might recommend further assessment. These symptoms may include:

- Rectal bleeding

- Changes in bowel habits (constipation or diarrhoea)

- Blood in the stool

- Abnormal weight loss

- Abnormal pain

Your doctor might perform this procedure if there is any signs of family history that has colon cancer or polyps (malignant growths in the lining of the colon). This is to detect Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. A biopsy is needed by using a colonoscopy to determine the presence of infection or to remove colon polyps.
