Dr. Sim Pek Eng obtained her medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Malaya in 1998. She began to develop an interest in Ophthalmology while she was serving her compulsory service at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. After passing the International Council of Ophthalmology examination in 2002, she continued to pursue her passion in Ophthalmology by joining the Master Program in Ophthalmology at Hospital University Kebangsaan Malaysia. She did her residency in the Eye Department of Hospital Selayang, one of the leading hospitals in providing tertiary and sub-specialty eye care services in the country. Dr. Sim was accredited as a qualified eye surgeon in 2006. She returned to serve the people of Sabah as a comprehensive Ophthalmologist performing a variety of eye surgeries including, cataract, glaucoma, squint and eyelids surgeries. Dr. Sim has a special interest in Refractive Surgery. In 2008, she obtained a Certificate of Lasik Surgery from Mumbai, India. Since then, she has performed numerous advanced refractive surgeries, including, Laser Refractive Surgery, Phakic intra-ocular lens and piggyback lens implantation, refractive lens exchange with implantation of toric, multifocal and toric-multifocal lenses. As a certified VISIAN ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) Surgeon, she is the first surgeon to conduct VISIAN ICL implants in Sabah since 2011.
Dr. Sim is also a highly skilled cataract surgeon who has performed thousands of successful cataract surgeries; mostly the modern SICS (Small Incision Cataract Surgery). Dr. Sim is not only fluent in the three official languages; Mandarin, Malay and English, but she is able to converse in multiple dialects including Hokkien, Fookchow, Cantonese and Hakka. As such, her patients can communicate with her at ease.
